By the incomparable sire and sire of sires Danzig and out of one of the most exquisite female families of modern times, three-time G1 winner POLISH NAVY was made to be a sire. That impression was cemented when POLISH NAVY's second crop included the Kentucky Derby and Travers winner (and $2.9 million earner) Sea Hero. On the heels of this success and other runners such as G1 winner Ghazi, POLISH NAVY was bought by breeders in Japan where he sired six crops before recently being repatriated back to the U.S.

As his fourth dam is the foundation mare La Troienne, POLISH NAVY represents a genetic goldmine. Inbreeding to La Troienne is the most obvious choice in choosing mates for POLISH NAVY as scores of horses inbred to that great mare have literally shaped the breed. Buckpasser-line mares provide a close cross and further reinforce the family as POLISH NAVY's dam is a half-sister to Buckpasser. In addition, Danzig has worked exceptionally well with Buckpasser mares, getting 16 stakes winners, including G1 winners Versailles Treaty, Polish Precedent, and Easy Now. POLISH NAVY's G1 steeplechaser Petroski's second dam is a Buckpasser mare.

Sea Hero is out of a Graustark mare and it would certainly make sense to use this cross again. Other POLISH NAVY progeny hailing from the Graustark or other Ribot lines include the aforementioned Petroski and the multiple stakes winner Packet, in addition to Sea Hero's G1 winner Cindy's Hero. Damascus-line mares also have had great success with POLISH NAVY and have produced the earlier-referenced Ghazi and four-time stakes winner Anchor, as well as Sea Hero's G2 winner Hero's Tribute and additional stakes winner Crystal Sea.

POLISH NAVY is inbred 7x4 to Man o' War and inbreeding further to this now-distant line has produced the champion Japanese runner Godspeed, while inbreeding to Northern Dancer thru Nijinsky II has resulted in American G3 winner Pollock's Luck.

A complete outcross to the Mr. Prospector/Raise a Native line, POLISH NAVY has produced G2 winner Prussian Blue and G3 winner Toshi the Mika when bred to Mr. Prospector-line mares. Other successful and proven crosses for POLISH NAVY have included Never Bend mares, Hail to Reason-line mares, and daughters of Seattle Slew.
